Andaman Islands Accommodation & Holidays
Thailand, Southeast Asia
Phuket is the best-known place on Thailand's Andaman Coast, but there's a lot more to see here than just the most famous island. All along the coast are beaches, beaches and more beaches – some are amongst the best on the planet. You can also enjoy the national parks, visit some local cities and take a cruise to some of the islands. If you've been inspired to visit Thailand by watching The Beach, then you'll want to visit Ko Phi Phi Leh, the beautiful island where the movie was filmed – although the film's success means that there are more tourists here than there used to be.

Ao Nang and Rai Lay are the best-known beaches in the area, with the former busier and more developed than the latter. In this area you can enjoy scuba diving and rock climbing, as well as beach bars and beachside massages. Krabi is one of the main hubs for this area. If you get tired of the beach resorts, come here to see the Tiger Temple and wander the restaurants, market and bars to get a taste for a Thailand outside the resorts. Sok National Park is an amazing place. If you enjoy adventure holidays then you could easily spend a week here hiking, rubber tubing and spelunking. If that sounds like being too energetic, then you can wander around finding beautiful flowers and seeing wildlife, including monkeys and elephants.
Andaman-Khao Sok NP
It's easy to get from the beach resorts to Khao Sok National Park – there are regular buses, or you can join an excursion. Hat Yai is the nearest sizeable city. It's quite touristy and lacks the sights of Bangkok, but you can still enjoy the nightlife, parks and giant Buddha statue. Surat Thani is another nearby city, which you're likely to pass through if you're travelling from Bangkok to the Andaman Coast. Its sights are limited as it mainly attracts stopover travellers but it has a good pub scene and a night time market.
