While made up of 99 islands, Pulau Langkawi contains the majority of Langkawi's hotels and sites of interest. Beaches on the island include the ever popular Pantai Cenang with its beachfront restaurants and white-sand beaches. Dantai Bay is home to some of the most expensive resorts, while Pantai Tengah just south is a much quieter location popular with families and older tourists. For a change of scenery, visit Pantai Pasir Hitam's sandy shores, tinted an ash black by the region's rich iron ore deposits.
