The Midddle East
The island nation of Bahrain is a small archipelago made up of 33 natural islands and 51 artificial islands. One of the safest countries in the Middle East, Bahrain is alos one of the richest with its expansive oil reserves and relatively small population. The capital Manama is a cosmopolitan city with modern skyline. The coast is scattered with beaches and hotels whilst inland is mostly the desert. Bahrain has long been a centre of trade and has rich archaelogical sites including UNESCO-listed Qalat Al Bahrain and Bahrain Fort, the ancient Saar burial chambers and Barbar Temple.
