The main island of Hawaii is Oahu, with the international airport at Honolulu on the dry leeward south side of the island, backed by fantastic rainforest mountains. Between the state capital are two world famous icons - Pearl Harbour and Waikiki Beach. Almost all accommodation on Oahu is around the one square mile of Waikiki Beach. The south east coast of Oahu is a wonderful scenic region with rocky coastline, volcanic craters, white sandy beaches and stunning rugged mountains where several world famous golf courses are located. The north coast of Oahu is the surfing region with its huge winter waves between November and March attracting the keenest of surfers. Central Oahu is dominated by pineapple plantations and the US navy and Army bases whilst west Oahu, with its lovely surfing beaches, is rural with a strong Hawaiian community.
