The port town of Nelson is a great place to base yourself for tours into the surrounding National Parks. In the peak summer months the town comes alive with outdoor restaurants and cafés serving mouth-watering local produce and seafood. Dine among the vines, along the waterfront or discover one of the many great country cafés.
The Nelson Lakes National Park is the northernmost tip of the Southern Alps, and comprises glacial lakes, craggy peaks, native beech forests and stunning valleys. Kahurangi National Park is a vast wilderness area centred on the Tasman mountains, with many walking tracks available.
