New York has a global reputation as the city that never sleeps, or the Big Apple, it is difficult to imagine a city with a bigger prominence in the world. It is the most populous city in the U.S., and home to the United Nations. The city itself is divided into five boroughs which are each made up of numerous neighbourhoods. This city has a lot to draw the crowds. For one, there are plenty of cultural activities; Broadway puts on dozens of musicals and plays every year, while there are also symphonies and operas to attend. There are many museums and galleries, and numerous buildings and monuments. There is also nothing like just randomly wandering around the various neighbourhoods that make up this wonderful city, either by taxi, subway, or by foot.

One iconic monument of New York is the Statue of Liberty, a gift from France in the nineteenth century; she now calls Liberty Island home. There is also the Empire State Building, another iconic American structure, once the tallest building in the world for forty years, and still accessible to the public wishing to take the elevator to the top. Central Park, a unique greenspace in the centre of Manhattan, is a great place to take a stroll.
This city also has a lot of museums and galleries to see. Some favourites include: the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met), the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Guggenheim, and the Museum of Natural History. If you are a gallery and museum buff, there are plenty of world class venues to explore, and some that are off the beaten track, like the Snug Harbor Cultural Center or Theodore Roosevelt's Birthplace.
For theatre, there is no place in the U.S. like this city. There are unique Broadway and off-Broadway productions going on all the time that cater to every possible taste in music, drama, and comedy. Live theatre is thriving in this city because it still draws a big crowd, and while in the city you can see a different production every night and maybe even a matinee.
It is said one of the appealing things about New York City is that if you wake up at 3am feeling peckish, you can find a restaurant where you can order a full steak dinner. Truly, this is a unique draw to this city, but the cuisine has more to offer than its accessibility, the dining rooms and restaurants are cutting edge and produce wonderful gourmet creations that you may not be able to find anywhere else. At street level, there are diners, cafes, and eateries that constantly surprise, and everyone has their favourites.
