In Ecuador you can hike through the Andes, along Pacific beaches, and deep into the Amazon rainforest. The nation has over forty protected areas and the advantage of trekking in Ecuador is that these areas are easily accessible. Trekking in the Andes is particularly spectacular, as often your hike will take you above the clouds for a unique and silent view of the surrounding area. Where your trek takes you through the countryside, you can find yourself with the opportunity to visit one of the many indigenous markets so well-known throughout the region.
Some of the lesser known holidays celebrated in Ecuador include the Otavalo of Inti Raymi (June) and Yamor of early September. More traditional bullfights are held in Quito in December.
